Bikini Olympian Romina Basualdo

Having a conversation with someone who is originally from a part of the world that is different from the place you grew up can be very interesting. Firstly, the language barrier can exist to make things challenging but fun, you think about how you speak, how you ask questions, and don't take for granted the slang you use in casual conversation. Another aspect is the cultural differences you get to learn about. It doesn't matter where in the world you live, in that given place, how you live is normal, at least to you. When you chat with someone who grew up in another country, it's eye opening to hear about how things are and were in their childhood and growing up. You really understand that there isn't one way to do anything and that includes living.

When IFBB Bikini pro and Olympian Romina Basualdo joined The Weight Room for episode 270, I got a taste of a different culture. Overall, the conversation was seamless, but there were a few times when I had to rephrase a question because I didn't take into account some of the words I just used are either slang or have different meanings in different places. As an interviewer, it made me think harder about the words I use and the way I phrase my questions to be as clear and understandable as possible for every guest regardless of their native language. Romina and I chatted about her getting into bodybuilding, bodybuilding in America compared to other parts of the world, and what it was like to make it to the Olympia stage.

I highly recommend talking to people from all around the world to see how things are other places from a real person's perspective and not just based on what you see on the news or social media. It has helped me realize that things are both very different in some ways but also very similar in other ways all over the world.
