Elite Physique Coach, Gareth Sapstead

Coaching, training, personal training, whatever you call it, there are almost as many names for it as actual people doing it, but some set themselves apart. That would be the case of Elite Physique coach, Gareth Sapstead. He has set himself apart both on social media, amassing a large Instagram following, as well as in his actual coaching career. With his background in training pro sport athletes, working with the everyday gym goer, and training pro and Olympia level bodybuilders, Gareth has cultivated a ton of knowledge. He continues to separate himself from competition by offering free content on social media, YouTube, and his own platforms that is actually more than just a good looking gym selfie. When you visit his pages, you will really pick up something worth hearing. He does admit that a lot of his stuff is for a more advanced crowd, but that's his niche now and that's a big part of what makes him successful, he's not chasing everybody and trying to please everybody. He sticks with targeting his potential clients and by doing so offers high quality, specific information.

On the podcast, we chat about his background in more of a strength and conditioning role and how it really wasn't for him. He felt he couldn't do what he had to do to make the improvements he wanted to make to the athletes and he was more interested in a different population. We also chat about how there are so many coaches/trainers out there especially on social media now who want to be everything to everybody. In this world, that is hard to turn into success and that's when he talks about why it's more effective to get specific. If you're trying to be the best at serving every population and serve their fitness needs, nutrition needs, physical therapy needs, massage needs, sleep needs, etc, you're not going to be great at any one of those and their going to see mediocre results. He says there is simply not enough time to get educated and experienced with every population, but there is time to become highly educated when you specialize. You then have knowledge only a few have so it makes you far more valuable. You can then serve those clients, get them high quality results, and your reputation grows.

We have a great chat about training for a goal and making your training specific for that goal you have. He mentions an example about a bodybuilding client he has where they deadlift but they utilize straps because the goal isn't grip strength, it's hamstring and glute development. If they just trained like a powerlifter, they would not have the same effectiveness for the goal they have.
