I often think about bodybuilding in eras. Usually defined by decade and who is popular and dominant. I am a huge fan of the "Arnold era". He influenced my fitness and health lifestyle and he's a huge reason I am even into the sport as a fan. Nonetheless, there are eras dominated by other athletes and you may have a rival who came along and gave them a battle, and then there was kind of "everybody else". They went in and out with the era and were gone.
This is the general rule, but there are exceptions who defy the era odds. One such person is Helle Trevino. She has had a career that spans about 3 different eras of bodybuilding. She has competed with the best from the early 2000's to current day. Her amateur career even starting before then when she competed at local and regional shows.
Helle has seen the world of fitness and the sport of bodybuilding change in a crazy way. From her early days being told to "not get too big" because men don't like it, to training and competing in an environment where everybody trains to together to now more of an individual approach, and so on- the changes are numerous.
On our episode, it clearly came across that Helle is one of the most kind and open people who is really willing to share everything from stories to deep emotions. One example is when she shared the story of her mother dying and her having a show to do.
We also talk about her injury and come back for the 2022 Olympia, how she overcame even her own expectations, and the kind of mindset it takes to succeed.
Episode 282 was one of my favorite episodes and favorite conversations I have ever had. I really felt like even though she was chatting with someone she had never met before, she really cared about the experience and sharing what she had to share.
