The world of agriculture goes deep within the worlds of business and politics. It is not as simple as they want us to think. It's far more than just farmers growing food or ranching and getting it to the grocery and us consuming it. The layers and levels are knotted together so tight it's hard or maybe even impossible to really understand. The "system" has created a beast that has become a necessary evil. Or, maybe that's just what they want us to think.
On episode 252 of The Weight Room with regenerative rancher Michael Kinsey, we talk about the current system of agriculture, he explains it in an understandable and basic way and then shares what regenerative agriculture is.
During our conversation about the current model, he doesn't demonize those who choose to do it that way, he understands that many farmers don't know the big picture and the downsides of the system and even if they did it is a risk that a lot are not willing to take to do it a different way.
Regenerative agriculture is something I knew nothing about and I'm sure most people don't know anything about either and that's why I knew I had to get to the bottom of it. Michael Kinsey did a great job of explaining what he does, what the process is, what makes it different and why it is even better than sustainable which is a common buzzword these days.
After recording this podcast I was both excited about the possibilities of the future of regenerative agriculture and nervous about whether the current system would make a large enough change to make a difference for the world's health and the health of it's inhabitants including plant life, animal life and human life.
This is probably the longest episode of The Weight Room and the conversation could have been twice as long but it is worth every minute.
