Scott Hewlett is the creator of the podcast Multiple Calls Podcast. He has an Instagram page where he shares information about mental and physical health in general and how it relates to the fire service. He has created a community of openness about many topics that are not often talked about with the fire service community and he creates conversations that make people think differently about "the way things are done". He is a big advocate for change, but also making sure that the changes are based on a better way of doing things, not just a different way of doing them.
On episode 79, Scott Hewlett shares his journey into the fire service, his experiences from over two decades in the fire service, what he learned during his time and what he saw that needed changing. We also talk about "systems" in general and how it's okay to question and fix them but it's also important to understand that it takes thoughtful change, not just constant change. We talk about how these systems sometimes lag behind current knowledge and are hard to update. The power of having a conversation where you can really express your thoughts and ideas is something we are losing in this world unless it is with people who already agree with us.
Scott Hewlett and I also chat about the importance of stress and training within the fire service. Make sure to check out the full episode with Scott Hewlett on The Weight Room anywhere you can find podcasts including linked below with other helpful links!
